Assume you used 0.200 g of salicylic acid and 0.480 mL of acetic anhydride, and you obtain 0.152 g of pure, recrystallized, dry aspirin.

Calculate the percent yield, clearly showing the calculations.

Yes, sometimes the lab will tell you to look up the density for the acetic anhydride and actually calculate it. or it might just say "assume salicylic acid is the limiting reagent" or "calculate the theoretical yield and percent yield based on your salicylic acid".  Then they are telling you that salicylic acid is limiting and you don't have to do more calculations.
 
Usually your "main molecule" is your limiting reagent and your little molecule/reagent will be provided in excess, LOL.  But this is not always true, so it is best to know from your teacher or the lab experiment itself, or by doing a parallel calculation for yield to determine the limiting reagent.
