What do I do to get the answer to this problem?

If a serving is 1/2 cup, you need to find out how many 1/2 cups are in 1 1/4.

 

Therefore you need to divide 1 1/4 by 1/2.  First, let's convert 1 1/4 into an improper fraction.

1 1/4 = 5/4.  

Now we can divide 5/4 ÷ 1/2   = 5/4 x 2/1 = 10/4  (Freeze, change, flip)

 

10/4 = 2 1/2   so there are 2 1/2   servings in a can of soup.
