x = number of items produced

C(x) = cost of producing x items

The average cost per item is the total cost divided by the number of items:

**Average Cost per Item**= C(x)/x = (500+40x)/x =

**(500/x) + 40**

To find the cost per item for 70 items, just plug in x = 70 and compute the answer.
