More logarithms

Given log54=a and log34=b, express log21.8 in terms of a and b...
So how do you get two different bases from only log21.8.. are you supposed to like separate them to log29 - log25 ?

Ryn,

From 5a = 4 you can derive the last part. You need to change the base, which would be easy if you raise the two sides to power of (1/a). Then,

5a•(1/a) = 4(1/a) ,
5 = 22(1/a),
5 = 22/a,
We can re-write this in log form:
log25 = 2/a.

The same way
log23 = 2/b.

Then, the rest follows.
