Part a:  3 + 2x = 11; 2x = 8;  x = 4

Part b:  ln(e)3 + 2 log(x) = 11;  ln(e)3 = 3*ln(e) = 3*1 = 3;  3 + 2 log(x) = 11;

2 log(x) = 8; log(x) = 4;  therefore x = 104 = 10,000
