Taylor: Let the length be L and width be W. Then the perimeter, let us call it P, is ( the sum of all sides) that is P = 2(L + W). Taylor, you see that there are three variables connected by an equation. If ANY two are you can find the value of the third. In your question, P = 128 and W = 34. The equation becomes 128 = 2(L + 34). Solve for W. 128 / 2 = L + 34. 64 = L + 34 L = 30. Check. P = sum of all sides = 34+30+34+30 = 128. Done! Dr. G.
