Find the dimensions of a rectangle if the area is 45ft, the height is (x-45) ft and the width is (x-2) ft

45 = (x - 45)(x - 2)

45 = x² - 45x - 2x + 90

x² - 47x + 45 = 0

 

Are you sure the area is 45 feet² and the height is x - 45?  That quadratic doesn't factor, and when you use the quadratic formula, you get decimal answers.
