Zinc(II) carbonate, ZnCO3, has a theoretical mass % CO2 of 35%. If 1.00 g of ZnCO3 reacts with excess HCl according to the procedure in this experiment, what mass of CO2 is lost as the ZnCO3 and HCl react?

ZnCO3 + 2HCl ==> ZnCl2 + H2O + CO2

1.00 g ZnCO3 x 0.35 = 0.35 g CO2

The mass of CO2 lost should be 0.35 g if all of it escapes into the atmosphere.
