I guess that depends on what you mean by "strongly", but the typical reaction that forms a transparent bead is:

Na₂B₄O₇*10H₂O ==∆==> Na₂B₄O₇ ===> B₂O₃ + 2NaBO₂

Borax ==∆==> sodium tetraborate ===>boric anhydride + sodium metaborate

 

The boric anhydride and sodium metaborate form the transparent bead
