Have you ever used SUBSTITUTION? It's easy. Pick one equation and solve for one variable in terms of the other.

In this case, use the second equation to solve for x.

Then...SUBSTITUTE for x into the first equation. Lo! (and behold!) You will have one equation,involving only variable y.

Solve that. Then SUBSTITUTE this y value back into your equation for x.
