 it is a word problem....the length of 1 movie is given,the average of 2 movies is given but i don't know the length of the other movie .

What you do know is the average.  Let x be the length of the unknown movie. Put that in the equation for the average.

Change to decimals, parts of an hour, as opposed to keeping in minutes.  15/60 =0.25  45/60 =.75

x + 2.25   = 2.75

   2

x+ 2.25 = 5.5

x = 3.25

.25 * 60 is 15, so the other movie is 3 hours and fifteen minutes.
