What units are you using in the argument of the tangent function?  It cannot be degrees or radians, because neither 5° or 5 radians has a tangent of 3/100.

Use the sum of angles formula for tangent. Give it a shot, it's not as hard as it looks.,

Edit: Arturo is right, there seems to be an error in the problem. I think the teacher was probably looking to see if you understand the formula for tan(a + b).

tan(50) would clearly be tan(5 + 45), and since tan(45) in degrees is just equal to 1, when using the angle sum formula for tangent you would get:

tan(5) + tan(45)
1 - tan(5)tan(45)
