to make the denominators the same, multiply the second fraction by (3x - 1) / (3x - 1)

 

(x+5)^4 + (x+5)^3 (3x-1)

           (3x-1)^2                              factor out (x+5)^3

 

(x+5)^3  [(x+5) + (3x-1)]

(3x-1)^2

 

(x+5)^3 (4x + 4)

(3x-1)^2

 

4(x+5)^3 (x+1)

     (3x-1)^2
