a pet owner used a 3/4 pound can of food to fill hamster feeders. each feeder can hold 1/64 pound of food. in this manner, how many feeders would she fill from the 3/4 pound can

There are 3/4 pounds of food that needs to be separated (or divided) into 1/64 pound parts.  Notice that I said divided!

 

3/4 ÷1/64 =

 

In order to divide fractions, we must multiply by the reciprocal of the second term.

 

3/4 x 64/1 = 192/4 = 48

 

So the answer is 48 feeders.
