How do you find the value of a function expression?
For Example:For the function g(x) = x3 + x2 - 6x , find the value of each expression below. a. g(1). This is the problem I have to solve but I don't know how to. I don't even know the function expression/formula!! Please Help and explain to me how to do this problem so I can do the others!!!
Solution:
The way you find the value of the expression is by substituting an x value into the equation
g(x) = x3 + x2 - 6x to find g(1) substitute 1 for x in the equation
g(1)=(1)3+(1)2-6(1)=1+1-6= -4 This is explained as follows
the equation above forms a curve on a Cartesian coordinate system and the value of the y coordinate when the x coordinate is 1 is -4
This forms the point(1,-4) located on the curve and is a solution
to the curve equation at x=1
