a bungee jumper jumps 5 feet ever 0.5 second.  let ”s” be the toy’all number of seconds in a jump and “h“ be the height of the jump.  Write and equation to find”s”. Use your equation to calculate the total seconds in a 150foot jump.

rate x time = distance

 

For this problem time=s and distance=h.

The rate is given as 5 feet every 0.5 seconds, which comes out as

 

5 feet/0.5 sec = 10 feet/sec

 

So the equation becomes

 

10 feet/sec x s = h

s = h/(10 feet/sec)

 

For h=150 feet

 

s = 150 feet/(10 feet/sec)

s = 15 seconds
