What's the main difference between a square and a diamond?

A square has 4 equals and 4 equal corners. Some diamonds have the same characteristics. And this seems to be confusing.

Thanks a lot Laura and Jeff. So can I say that a diamond is to a square what a parallelogram is to a rectangle? Sorry for the style, I'm just a linguist! But I love math. Unfortunately, it seems too hard to me. Again, thanks a lot for your clarification!

Yes!  That is a great analogy if it helps you remember!
