The slope of line MN is (4-1)/(-2 -2) = -3/4
Parallel lines have the same slope.
So the parallel line has slope -3/4 and passes through (5,1)
y = m x + b ----> b = y - mx;
(5,1)--> x-5, y=1 and M = -3/4
b = 1 - (-3/4)(5) = 1 - (-3/4)(5/1)
= 1 - (-15/4)
= 1 + 15/4
= 4/4 + 15/4
= 19/4
The equation of the parallel line is
y = (-3/4)X + 19/4
When x=0, y = 19/4. So the y-intercept is (0, 19/4)
When x=1, y = (-3/4)(1) + 19/4 = -3/4 + 19/4 = 16/4 = 4
so (1,4)
When x=15, y = -15/4 + 19/4 = 4/4 = 1, so (15,1)
You can now graph the lines .
Please verify the slope using "rise over run"
Since the slope is -3/4, that's 3 down and 4 to the right
