Start with x(x+2) -6 + 3(2x+2)  =

 

x2 +2x -6 = 6x+6 = 

 

x2 -4x-12=0  which when factored is

 

(x-6) (x+2) = 0

 

so x=6, and x+2 = 8      (6 and 8) or (-2, 0)  but the first answer is the right one because 0 isn't an integer, but it is an even number.
