Polygon Reflection

You have a polygon on a coordinate plane that you must use a minimum number of reflection to get the polygon back to its original orientation and location. The one rule is that you can’t redo previous moves. The answer is 4 reflections... why?

Is there any reason why you can only do it in 4 reflections?

Do you want/need a mathematical "reason" in addition to an empirical one?

Yes please, that would be greatly appreciated.

For any point (x, y) in the polygon a left reflection over the y axis results in (-x, y).
A down reflection over the x axis results in (-x, -y).
A right reflection over the y axis results in (x, -y).
An up reflection over the x axis results in (x, y).
