For speed we like to use the units miles per hour ---> mph
Since Erika travels 5 miles in 30 minutes her rate is 5 miles/ 30 minutes , we need to convert to miles/hr , 30 minutes is 0.5 hr so ---> 5 miles/0.5 hr , when we do the division to find the rate we get 10 miles / 1 hr -->
10 mph
The next hour she travels 13 miles in 1 hour so her rate is
13 mph
Finally, we need to average the 2 speeds ---> ( 10 + 13) / 2 ---> 23/2 = 11.5 mph average
