You want to put a 4 inch thick layer of topsoil for a new 29 ft by 33 ft garden. The dirt store sells by the cubic yards. How many cubic yards will you need to order? The store only sells in increments of 1/4 cubic yards.

the required volume of dirt is (4/36)(29/3)(33/3) = LWH with L=29/3 yd, W=29/3 yd, H = (1/3)/3 yd; the latter is 1/3 foot divided by 3 to convert to yd from inches (a.k.a. 4/36).
