Hi Brooke from San Angelo...hope you had a great day at school. Ooooo....space calculations....everyone's favorite...Right?! Not!!!
Anyway...these kinds of problems can sometimes be a challenge to answer these kinds of questions.
Well...Brooke...I'll give you a hint...and give you direction to answering this problem, but I won't give you the answer. Once you learn the technique on how to answer them, you will be a pro and you'll probably gonna be asked by other on how to answer them.
Okay...here's the hint...let's begin by making sure you know how to calculate the area of a rectangle.
Do you know how to do that? Okay...I'll help you out with that. The equation or formula for calculating the area of a rectangle is: length times width equals area or l x w = area

Hint number 2...let's look for 2 things...the things we know and the things we don't know:
Things we know the area of the rectangle of the rectangle
We also know the length of the rectangle
We now know the formula to find the area of a rectangle
Things we don't know [or what the problem is asking us to find out]
The width of the rectangle
So know, using the information I've provided...you need to see if you can answer the problem.
Try and answer the problem...if you still need help....contact me on Wyzant...I can give you the answer, however by giving you the tools it will give you more confidence and skill to answer these and other problems involving fractions.
Don't forget...let me know if you need further help
Jon...see you on WyzAnt

Also remember to include your units measure, in this case inches in your answer. The units measure is a part of the answer. I will let you know that as a teacher I counted off a student's grade if units were not included. ALWAYS...ALWAYS include the units in ALL your answers if they are included in the problem.
