Geometry and area

one side of a flower bed is 8ft long.how many plants are needed if they are to be place 8 inches apart on the outside of the bed?
I tried perimeter,then area..but then i realized that we have inches and feet here...
confused!

The whole way around the bed...which would be four sides...dont understand

You would need to know the width to solve the problem "the whole way around the bed."  You only provided the length.

sorry,arthur...i had a lot of homework! meant to say square..that being said,I figured that since a square has equal sides it would be 8*4...but i got lost after that with the plants 8 inches apart.

Put one plant at each corner (4 plants).
On each side you put 11 plants 8 inches apart between the corner plants (4*11=44).
44+4=48 plants
