Estimate the number of foxes in the forest. Please help me!

Game wardens use experiments to help determine the number of foxes in a forest. Suppose 150 foxes are caught, tagged, and released back into the forest. Two weeks later 100 foxes are caught, of which 6 are found to have tags. Estimate the number of foxes in the forest.

Let x be the estimated population of foxes.  Now set up a proportion:

 

6/100 = 150/x

 

Cross multiply and solve for x.
