31 + 48 + ? = 117  , where the missing side is represented by the question mark , ?

 

79 + ? = 117

 

Solves the equation by subtracting 79 from both sides

 

79 + ? - 79 = 117 - 79

 

? = 38

 

 

So the missing side must be 38

 

It can be checked that 31 + 48 + 38 = 117
