This is an application of the Pythagorean Theorem.  The length and width of the screen form two legs of a right triangle and the diagonal is the hypotenuse.  If we let d = the length of the diagonal (hypotenuse), then by the Pythagorean Theorem:
 
d2 = (6.5)2 + (4.5)2
 
Solve for d.
