Two ducks before a duck, two ducks behind a duck and a duck in the middle are how many ducks?

There is no description. This is the problem. Any help would be appreciated. I am confused about the middle duck.

It looks like about the only thing we can conclude is that the number of ducks is odd and ≥ 3.

I agree with "≥ 3," but I would interpret "a duck in the middle" loosely to mean "somewhere between the ends" rather than exactly at the midpoint.

. . .  for example, "How many 8-bit numbers have a 1-bit (binary digit) at the start, a 1-bit at the end, and ywo 1-bits in the middle?

OK, the way the problem is worded, the second "duck in the middle" could be between the last 2 ducks.  Vague wording!
