Question

big city parking garage charges $20 for the first 6hr plus $7 for each additional half hour. Eduardo has $50 for parking. For how long can Eduardo park his car in this garage?

$20 covers the 1st 6 hours.  The additional

time is $14 per hour for more than 6 hours.

 

20 + 14(h-6) <= 50

20 + 14h - 84 <= 50

14h - 64 <= 50

14h <= 114

h <= 114/14 <= 8.1 

 

He can park for 8 hours.  

 

8 hours = 20 + 2(14) = $48

$20 first hour

$14 each additional hour

 

20 + 14h <= 50

 

Solve for h.

 

Then add 1 to what you get for h to account for the first hour.
