I assume h(t) = -16t² + 64 is the functional representation of the height of the stick.

 

I also assume that we are attempting to determine when the stick will hit the ground? This will occur when h(t) = 0.

 

-16t² + 64 = 0

 

64 - 16t² = 0

 

16(4 - t²) = 0

 

4 - t² = 0

 

4 = t²

 

t = ±2

 

Since t represents time, we can only use the positive value. Therefore, after 2 sec. the stick will strike the ground.
