Hi Laura,
The two equations -2x-4y=1, 12y=-6x-3 are actually only one equation. If you factor out a -3 from both sides of the second equation you get -2x-4y=1 which is the same as the first equation. So there is only one equation and 2 unknowns you can solve for y in terms of x which is y=-(x/2) - 1/4. So for any x you can calculate a corresponding y that will satisfy both of the given equations. So there are infinitely many solutions.
