Suppose he used to make $ X before the raise. After getting 6% raise he makes $ 1.06*X now which is equal to $38.69.

Therefore using proportions,

X / 1.06 X = ? / 38.69

? = 38.69 * X \ 1.06*X= 38.69 / 1.06 = $ 36.5

My math book says in the back of it that the answer is $36.50, but that is not the answer you have. Is there any other way to solve this math problem?
The book answer is correct. I had an error in my calculation. I did it with 60% increase rather than 6%. I have modified my calculations above. Please have a look.
