3x - 8 = (x - 1) y^.5
(3x - 8)/(x - 1) = y^.5
Divide the left side
3 - 5/(x - 1) = y^.5
Square both sides
y = 9 - 30/(x - 1) + 25/(x - 1)^2

It is. Instead of x - 1 it should be x + 1. Therefore the answer should be this:
y = [(3x - 8)/(x + 1)]^2
