A carpenter earns $11.00 per hour. He worked 3 1/4 hours on Wednesday, 7 1/4 hours on Thursday and 5 2/4 hours on Friday. How much money did he earn for the week?

      Assuming he did not work Monday the total number of hours worked is 3.25+7.25+5.5=16.00 hours he earns $11.00 for each hour worked so his earnings for the week are 11.00*16.00=$176.00

the solution is to add all the worked hours and multiply by the unit hour value. In this case the worked hours are 3.25 + 7.25 + 5.5 = 16 hours. the hourly value is $11 so he earned $ 176 dollars in the week.

(3 1/4) = 3.25

(7 1/4) = 7.25

(5 2/4) = 5.5
