Solve for x. Assume that lines which appear tangent are tangent

Solve for x

Harvey F.

I believe x is 24 since w is 23 and y is 25.

Please notice that I was commenting TO Shamekia to illustrate that x could be anything since there is no other information given in her question!  I was trying to let her see that she could get any answer to her question including my attempt at humor by giving the numerical order of the letter x in our alphabet. Maybe I should have invoked the identity property to say that "x = x".
I find it amazing that we see so many "questions" that make no sense to anyone, yet students somehow expect to get meaningful answers!

I concur with your observation, Harvey. Did not mean to make you a collateral victim of my own attempt at irony.

No harm done - I just wanted to clarify. In the past I participated in the Answers resource, but I determined that it never resulted in a paying student for me (as Wyzant suggests) and that it actually prevents students from ever seeking a tutoring relationship since the answers are endlessly "free". I have suggested that Wyzant put some limit on the total number of answers per student, but alas, no response. Have a great summer.

Harvey, FYI...I'm retired & living in Thailand so all of my Answering via WyzAnt is pro bono work.
But I do feel a need to answer philosophically (and editorially) when questions come in that are faulty in their wording, and especially in cases where I suspect that the badly designed problems come from the helter-skelter world of Common Core questions that are not adequately vetted before their release into the wild. I also feel it a duty to encourage students to wake up, pay attention in class, and learn from lecture (if any) and book (if any) or from answers provided.
Best wishes to you, sir.
