Let the dimensions be x and y

2(x+y) = 36

x+y = 18

xy = 80

 

rewrite x in terms of y

x = 18 - y

y(18-y) = 80

18y - y^2 - 80 = 0

y^2 - 18y + 80 = 0 (multiplied by -1)

(y - 10)(y - 8) = 0

y = 10 or y = 8

when y =8, x = 18 - 8 = 10

when y = 10, x = 18 - 10 = 8

The dimensions are 8 and 10 m.
