in the median of a trapezoid is 8 inches, and one base is 4 inches more than the other base, find the length of the bases

My cousin got this question on a test but didn't get the right answer. She asked me about it, but I can't seem to get the right answer either. This is what I am doing to solve it  (x+4+x)/2=8
I know it's probably something really silly we are omitting, but we can't seem to figure out what it is.
We know the right answer is 6 and 10, but we don't know how to get there.

Thank you very much!
I feel so dumb. Instead of multiplying both sides by 2, to cancel the 2, I was just taking away the 2

Not dumb! I have been there, done that. Sometimes getting wrapped up in the problem, the obvious escapes!
