2 5/8 is a mixed fraction. You can convert it to an improper fraction by multiplying the denominator with the whole number part and adding to the numerator. Then write the result as the numerator over the denominator of the mixed fraction.

2 5/8 can be converted to an improper fraction as shown below

2 5/8 = 8*2+5 / 8 = 21/8

 

then divide this by 3 to find the share of each person

21/8 ÷ 3 = 7/8
