Wayne is mixing paint. He makes six quarts of brown paint by mixing equal quantities of yellow paint and violet paint. The violet paint is made from one third red paint and two thirds blue paint. How much red does he use?

3 quarts yellow + 3 quarts violet = 6 quarts brown

 

1/3 of 3 is 1 quart red

2/3 of 3 is 2 quarts blue
