who ate more if the boys both ate half

Question

Manny ate half of a 7" long, 1/8"thick candy bar. Danny ate half of a 4" long,1"thick candy bar. Who ate more? And why?

I suggest computing the volumes of the amounts eaten.  Since the width of the candy bars is not given, I assume it is the same for both.  Multiply the length eaten by the thickness of the candy bar for both and compare the results. 

 

Manny:

 

(1/2) x 7" x (1/8") = 0.4375 in²

 

Danny:

 

(1/2) x (4") x (1") = 2 in²

 

Danny ate more.
