For example, if you receive a problem that states, "the CDC report estimates that 25% of all men ages 30 - 35 will have some sort of blood disorder by the age of 60" your parameter is p = .25. It is a parameter because it describes the entire population of interest. If a random sample was completed of men age 60 or older and the sample ascertained that only 20% of the sample had some sort of blood disorder, then the statistic would be p hat = .20.
