3/4x-12=-6

NEED HELP WITH THIS EQUATION

What is the first term? Is it "three-fourths times x?" Is it "3 over 4x?" Is it "3 over 4x - 12?"

Is this 3/(4x) - 12 = -6
or.     (3/4)x - 12 = -6
 
1). 3/(4x) - 12 = -6
     3/(4x) = 6
     3 = 24x
     3/24 = x
      1/8 = x
 
2). (3/4)x - 12 = -6
     (3/4)x = 6
      x = 6(4/3)
      x = 2(4)
      x = 8

3). 3/(4x-12) = -6
     3 = -6(4x-12)
     -1/2 = 4x-12
      11 1/2 = 4x
      23/2 = 4x
      (1/4)(23/2) = x
      23/8 = x
      
      x = 23/8 or 2 7/8
