What is the first term? Is it "three-fourths times x?" Is it "3 over 4x?" Is it "3 over 4x - 12?"

3). 3/(4x-12) = -6
     3 = -6(4x-12)
     -1/2 = 4x-12
      11 1/2 = 4x
      23/2 = 4x
      (1/4)(23/2) = x
      23/8 = x

      x = 23/8 or 2 7/8
