When i try to use division, i dont get a whole number. When i multiply, i dont get a whole number. HELP!

Converting the mixed number into an improper fraction, as other tutors have done, always works.  In this problem, that may be more complicated that using the distributive principle (note: this depends on your level of math):

     (2/3) of (15 3/4)

     (2/3) * (15 3/4)

     (2/3)*(15 + 3/4)

     (2/3)*(15)  +  (2/3)*(3/4)

          10         +     1/2

          10 1/2

simplify (63/3=21 and 4/2=2)

21/2=10 1/2 miles

 

divide 15 3/4 into 3 parts and take 2 of the parts
