An open barrel is to have a protective metal rim around the top. The top of the barrel has a diameter of 6.5 inches. What is the length of metal needed to form the strip?

You are looking for the circumference at the top of the barrel.

 

Circcumference , C = pi times diamter

 

You have the diameter , now multiply by pi

 

You can use 3.14159 as an estimate for pi
