Question

Rodger bought five bags of pretzels and three calculators for $36. Stephan bought twenty bags of pretzels and a calculator for $67. Emily bought two bags of pretzels and five calculators.  How much did she pay?  

Please help work this out.

5p + 3c = 36

20p + c = 67 ----> c = 67 - 20p

 

5p + 3(67 - 20p) = 36

5p + 201 - 60p = 36

55p = 165

p = 3

 

a = 67 - 20(3) = 67 - 60 = 7

 

2(3) + 5(7) = 6 + 35 = 41
