Red if 1/3 of 30 sq ft.

     (1/3)30 = 10

    There are 10 sq ft of red

 

White is 2/5 of 30 sq ft

    (2/5)30 = 12

    There are 12 sq ft of white

 

Now, if Blue is the only other color, then there are 30-10-12 = 8 sq ft of Blue

 

Let x = number of sq ft of Blue

 

     Red             +          White          +        Blue          =      total

    (1/3)30         +         (2/5)30        +         x             =      30

      10              +            12             +         x             =      30

           22 + x = 30

               x = 8

We know how much is either red or white:

1/3 + 2/5 = 5/15 + 6/15 = 11/15
