Expanding the formula indicates you need to remove the parentheses, in this case by multiplication.  Remember that:

x(25-0.1x) = (x)*(25-0.1x) = x*25-x*0.1x

Solve this by multiplication and you will get your answer to part a.

 

For b,

Since the number of trees is represented by x, you insert x=110 into your equation in part a to get the answer: 1540 baskets (you can also use the original equation, but using the one you determined is an effective way to ensure your equation is correct).
