To find the y intercept, set x=0 in the given equation, and solve for y.  Suppose you get y₀ for your solution.  Then the y intercept is the point (0,y₀). Usually we designate the point as (0,b).

 

Similarly, to get the x intercept, set y=0 in the given equation, and solve for x.  Suppose you get x₁ for your solution.  Then the x intercept is the point (x₁,0).
