An element is when all of the atoms are made of a single substance. (Example: iron.)
Compounds are a combination of two or more elements integrated with each other. (Example: Iron and carbon can make steel.)
Mixtures are when the substances are mixed together, but the substances maintain their own composition. (Example: air is made of oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, etc., but each particle is its own thing.)
