Reading what you have written, the order of operations rule(s) dictate the following:

 

1.    6/3 = 3.  This is done because the ensuing operation is multiplication, and that has same priority as division, so the first operation encountered is done first.

 

2.  We now have 3(1+2).  Multiplication can now be considered 3(3) = 9.  Or you could have distributed, leading to same result.

 

If the problem, on the other hand, was INTENDED to be numerator is 6, and ENTIRE DENOMINATOR was to be 2(1+2), then it would have required the following grouping:   6÷[2(1+2)],  in which case the answer would have been 1.

 

This illustrates the supreme importance of correct grouping(parenthesization).
